In this episode I chat with Rebecca Field about her upcoming debut collection - Silvestris. We explore the interplay between place, time and voice, and chat about placing trust in the creative process.
Rebecca is Research Fellow in Medieval Literature at the University of Cambridge, where she writes mostly about mysticism, manuscript illumination, and medieval soundscapes. She has a lifelong fascination with history and archaeology, which consistently bleeds over into her creative practice, whether that be poetry, fiction, or medieval miniature painting. Her poetry is deeply inspired by echoes of the past in the wild landscapes she traversed as a child.
We talk about:
Navigating the tension between research and re-imagining when writing about the past
How ritual shapes our relationship with place
How deep-rooted connection to place feeds our creativity, and how we in turn offer nourishment back to the land through our words
The emergence of Silvestris, and its journey to publication
